The performance featuring Almas Del Ritmo’s Carmen Guynn and Mauricio Villanueva will feature an exhilarating Afro-Cuban dance routine, highlighting the energetic rhythms and movements that have shaped Latin music and culture. Students will learn how African influences, brought to the Americas through the transatlantic slave trade, gave rise to the vibrant genres of music and dance we see today, including salsa, mambo, rumba, and more.

Students will be introduced to influential Afro-Latino figures, such as Celia Cruz, Tito Puente, and Chano Pozo, who have made lasting contributions to music and dance, blending African traditions with Latin American expressions.
Through this interactive experience, students will gain a deeper understanding of how African culture continues to influence and shape the world, while celebrating the incredible contributions of Afro-Latinos to global music and dance. This is an inspiring opportunity for students to connect with the power of rhythm, history, and cultural identity.
