Dancing the Story

Note: This program can only be delivered virtually.

Dancing the Story is a 3-5 day virtual creative dance residency that explores a work of literature through movement and dance making. Directed by dance educator and choreographer Sarah Council, students will consider an age-appropriate story and create dances inspired by the stories’ themes, images, and literary form.

Over the course of this residency, students will:
– Read a work of literature, observing the narrative style, descriptive or repetitive language, characters, sequence of events, and form (beginning, middle, and end).
– Explore these ideas through movement utilizing the elements of dance (shape, time, space, and quality).
– Work independently and collaboratively to create original choreography inspired by these explorations.
– Perform and observe these small group dances within the classroom/online setting.
